Vacation...

I'm all packed and ready to go. I probably won't be blogging from the road...
See ya when I get back!

Magic Works...

is the name of the last dance song in the Goblet of Fire. It's really good; worth sitting through the credits for. Three original Weird Sisters songs are played at the Yule Ball. I think from start to finish this was the best movie so far. All the Weasleys were wearing their cool hand knits. I love Ginny's sweater.

Ron's got a new Weasley sweater with buttons up the yoke. I couldn't find a picture of it.

No Dursleys in this one. One of the plays I'm going to in London is called Heroes and stars Vernon Dursley (aka Richard Griffiths) and Mr. Ollivander (aka John Hurt). Yeah! Can't wait!

Knit Alongs

I've joined my first knit along!

I plan to knit a Weasley for my nephew, baby j. I'm using Encore Plymouth worsted in these colors.

My sister, Mama J, is not someone who has time for handwashing any knits. So I think this is an ideal yarn to knit a sweater for her kid.

The other items on my list are:
legwarmers (maybe from Last Minute Knitted Gifts, or a pattern of my own) for Mama J, my sister
two knit hats, one for dad, one for Best Friend
Last, but not least, I will be knitting a Mother Bear teddy bear.

I sent away for the pattern a while ago. I would like to knit one or two of these. You can send for your pattern here. I am also knititng the bear for this knit along. knituntoothersbutton.jpg
I'll knit these on my trip and mail them out when I get back.

Yeah for knit alongs!

Flora, the beautiful

Look at my beautiful Flora.
Flora_model.jpg
Pattern: Flora by Kate Kuckro in Knitty Fall 2005
Yarn: Only ONE skein of Noro Silk Garden held together with leftover Rowan KSH in marmalade
Needles: #9US bamboo
Notes: This neckwarmer only took one skein of Silk Garden; I knit the flower first and then I knit the main body until I ran out of yarn. The pattern says the finished scarf will measure 23"; mine is only about 21". For the button, I snipped off the spare from the inside of my sister's jacket! The twisted stitch called for in the pattern is really easy: basically you just do what it says. But Kate Kuckro has added additional instructions on her blog.

A sweet detail of this pattern is that it calls for you to use buttons and the eyelets in the main body to hold the flower on. Cute!

Hourglass Progress

I'm progressing on Hourglass; I already finished the hem.

Noooo, that is not a ball of yarn in the middle...

Hourglass III

I'm working on my third hourglass sweater with Peace Fleece worsted in Ancient Fern. Here's a swatch:

Yes, hours and hours of stocking stitch can get boring, but there's something so appealing about the Vs all lined up. I've never worked with Peace Fleece before, but I hope it softens up in the blocking process.

Yes, that is one sleeve standing at attention.

I saw the 2005 Pride & Prejudice over the weekend. No one can beat the real Mr. Darcy.
