Totally Tubular!

I never meant to turn into a Once-A-Week-Blogger...hmmm.

I cast on for a new summer sweater: Rambling Rose from Rowan 39.

Here's sleeve #1 completed. I usually like to begin with the sleeves when I knit sweaters. Sometimes I use my sleeves as the gauge swatch.

I used a tubular cast on for the sleeve, which I've never tried before. Here's sleeve #2. The picture's kind of blurry, but you can see the neat rounded edging. Hmmm...why does my ribbing never look that good? Usually on wool items, it kind of works itself out, but all the flaws are showing up on this cotton ribbing. Maybe I can steam it into submission.

The internet is a truly amazing place: I found the how-to's of tubular cast on at Amelia Raitte's blog. Just Google it and it will come.

FO: Diamond Fantasy Scarf

dfs1.JPG

Pattern: Sivia Harding's Diamond Fantasy
Yarn: 2 Skeins of Morehouse Merino Lace in Silver Birch (you can only get this color through their Verona Lace Shawl kit)
Needles: Addi Natura Circular US5 3.75mm (I wasn't too thrilled about this needle; the yarn kept sticking in the join of the cable and needle)
Size: 22" from tip to top; 44" across
Size after blocking: 30" tip to top; 60" across
You can knit a scarf size (6 repeats) or shawl size (10 repeats) I knit the scarf size, but did 7 repeats because I wanted to use up most of both skeins of yarn.
Start: March 23, 2006
Finished: April 20, 2006
Notes: The pattern calls for an I-cord bind-off. It took me an hour and 15 minutes to bind off 212 stitches. I love the edging of the scarf, which you bind off as you go along.

See some blurry pics in the extended entry:

A small finished object

I was trying to finish something really quick to boost my knit ego, so I knit this hat for my 2 year old nephew. (Turns out it wasn't such a quick knit; it still took a whole week to finish!)

I don't have any shots of him wearing the hat, but I do have shots of him wearing this for the Easter egg hunt:

Stash enhancement

I received a belated birthday gift from my sister. It's from Curious Yarns in the UK.

Here are some lovely skeins of sock yarn:

From left to right, the colors are Heathertop, Beach, and Bec Loves Tigger.

Here is some Gleaming a 4ply silk yarn (not sure of the color, the skeins were not marked)

Thanks little sister for my gift. How did you know I wanted to get into sock knitting?

Parade of Works in Progress

What with the daylight savings starting, I was able to get home from work and take a few pics of my works in progress.

Diamond Fantasy Shawl at the end of the 3rd repeat of Chart B:

I'm stuck at the short row shawl collar. It looks all wonky because the collar is on a too-short circular needle.
I've already had to frog the collar. See:
